A great family day out with 4.5 billion years of discovery. If you love Leeds history, the ancient worlds, natural sciences, there's plenty to enjoy.
Established in 1821 Leeds Museums and Galleries (LMG) is the largest local authority-run museum service in England and has one of the larger and most significant multidisciplinary collections in the UK. We care for 1.3 million objects which we use to inspire, educate, entertain and challenge the people of Leeds and visitors to our city. Four of our collections have Designated status. We run nine historic sites and visitor attractions, to which we welcome over 1 million visitors each year, approximately 25% of all museum visits across Yorkshire.
We are run and primarily funded by Leeds City Council (LCC), and play a significant role in shaping the cultural life of our city, but as a leading museum service we have a regional and national reputation and role. In 2012 we achieved Major Partner Museum status from Arts Council England, which has brought significant additional funding and further national prominence and expectation.
