Latest as coronavirus death toll in England rises by seven

Only two areas of Yorkshire have seen their coronavirus infection rate rise in the latest figures from Public Health England.

And the three local authority areas currently under stricter lockdown measures have all seen their rates fall, as councils demand the government release them from the tougher rules.

An announcement on the restrictions is expected later today.

Bradford has seen rates fall from 57.2 to 42.1, Calderdale has fallen from 39.3 to 28.4 and Kirklees has dropped from 37.3 to 26.1.

Today, the government announced that from September 1 people on low incomes who need to self-isolate and are unable to work from home in areas with high levels of Covid-19 will benefit from a new payment scheme starting on September 1,

The scheme of financial support has been brought in for economically vulnerable people in areas hit hardest by coronavirus – beginning in Lancashire, but not Yorkshire.
