Fostering families in Leeds set to benefit from council’s exciting partnership with skating rink

Leeds City Council has signed a partnership with the new Planet Ice skating rink on Elland road, next to the park and ride. The new partnership will offer all Leeds City Council foster families a heavily discounted entrance fee and free use of ice skates. They will also have access to a limited number of free tickets to see the Leeds Ice Hockey team, The Leeds Chiefs, who are based at the ice rink and have just completed their first professional season in the National League.

Leeds City Council foster families, through the Child Friendly Leeds initiative, have access to many businesses all across the city at either no cost or a heavily reduced cost. The council is delighted to welcome Planet Ice, declared Europe’s number one for ice leisure, into this agreement so foster families can benefit from their facilities and have fun over the half term and beyond.

In addition to the partnership, Planet Ice have also requested to join the ever growing number of Leeds Child Friendly Ambassadors, who are a mix of local and national based businesses working with the council to make our city the best city for children and young people in the UK.

Councillor Fiona Venner, Executive Member for Children and Families for Leeds City Council, said:

“We’re pleased to welcome Planet Ice into the range of incentives and benefits offered to foster families in Leeds. The ice rink is open now and we hope foster families can find the time to visit for a fun and enjoyable day out.  Fostering with Leeds City Council is a fantastic and rewarding opportunity to help a child in need find a home and also become part of a wider network of foster families”

Leeds City Council is one of the largest fostering departments in the country with approximately 750 foster families. However, the council continues to have a critical shortage of foster carers able to care for children aged 11 plus, as well as large sibling groups and children with disabilities.
