Young Peoples CV-19 Conversations in Chapeltown Song Writing workshop

May 30 @ 10:00 £5.00

Our community group Unity Does MAATer are inviting young people (ages 9 – 15 years) from the community to join us for a CV-19 Workshop & Discussion.

Join us in person to share your experience of the last 12 months of CV19. We are aware of all the issues faced, including isolation, depression, stigma, racism, home-schooling and everything we are facing right now in 2021.

Come and share your experiences through our four arts workshops:-

Art and crafts:

This workshop facilitated by Bev from Shola Artz. When we ran this event with our Elders they customised bags, treasure boxes and cups, the discussions were humbling, click on the link to hear a snippet. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1055497331531145 Feedback received from the attendees said this workshop helped by reducing feelings of isolation.

Poetry writing:

With Khadijah Ibrahiim you will learn about the importance of creating your own narrative through the art of poetry writing. Click on the link to hear a snippet of the event last year https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1465093263680146

Singing and song writing:

With Paulette Morris you will create a song, when we ran this project last year all attendees contributed to create a gospel song. Click on the link to hear a snippet https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=665768684082233 What song will be created this year? UDM are wondering what song the youngers will create!

Dance:

Lemarah has been dancing since 7 years old, and has danced and performed with RJC Dance and taught at The John Smeaton Academy. Lemarah has performed at Leeds playhouse and in front of Nicola Adams. With Lemarah you will express your CV-19 experiences through dance.

The discussions continue at the end of the workshops. Themes will be collated and shared with the Chapeltown Community in order to build up resilience, share skills, and learn lessons from your experiences.
