How the next Mayor of West Yorkshire can tackle air pollution

16 April @ 5:45 pm - 7:30 pm

Asthma + Lung UK is holding a panel event in the Newlyn Building at Leeds University at 6pm on Tuesday 16 April 2024 – and we’d love you to join us.

Please arrive from 5:45pm to ensure there is enough time for everyone to take their seats before the event begins promptly at 6pm.

With mayoral elections taking place on 2 May, candidates in the running are visiting communities across the region to talk about what they will do to improve West Yorkshire should they be elected. This is a crucial issue because we know that:

· 84% of schools are located in areas that breach World Health Organisation guidelines for air pollution[i],

· Childhood asthma admissions are above the national average[ii]

· 800,000 people are living in areas with illegal levels of harmful gasses like nitrogen dioxide (NO2)[iii]

We need to make sure our next Mayor is planning to take bold action to reduce air pollution as quickly as possible.

At the event you’ll hear directly from your mayoral candidates about their plans to improve air quality in your area. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about anything from improving public transport, protecting children in and around schools and about how other clean air polices can help make West Yorkshire a safer place to live and breathe.

If you’d like to submit a question in advance, you can do that by emailing your name, area and question to campaigns@asthmaandlung.org.uk

Please Note: This event will be photographed and recorded and may be shared publicly. If you’d prefer not to be included in photo and video content, please let a member of staff know when you arrive.
