193 new coronavirus cases in Yorkshire as Leeds overtakes Bradford

There have been a further 193 cases of coronavirus confirmed across Yorkshire in the past 24 hours.

The biggest increase was seen in Leeds, with an increase of 56 cases; followed closely by Bradford, which saw an increase of 53.

Bradford, which has spent weeks as Yorkshire’s Covid hot spot, has recently seen its infection rate fall. Read more about this here .

In the seven days up to August 23, Bradford’s infection rate fell from 57.2 to 42.1.

Kirklees has also seen a large increase in cases over the last 24 hours, with 28 new cases confirmed.

Calderdale, which is part of the areas in West Yorkshire under a local lockdown alongside Bradford and Kirklees, saw an increase of just nine cases in this time.

Meanwhile in South Yorkshire, Rotherham did not confirm any new cases of coronavirus in the past day, with the town’s total remaining at 2,158.

And York, Doncaster and Hull only confirmed a further three cases in this time.

This comes as Yorkshire confirms that one person who had tested positive for the coronavirus has sadly died in the last day, bringing Yorkshire’s total death toll to 2,592.

There were seven deaths confirmed by hospitals across England in the last 24 hours, the patients were between 77 and 90-years-old and all had known underlying health conditions.

The coronavirus death toll for hospitals across England is now at 29,531.
